How does a site, which offers you only points, which generally mean nothing, still motivate you to w

it%26#039;s not even like you can trade the points in for something like you can on your credit card points. OKAY you got an %26quot;anniversary%26quot; gift if you signed up for it, but even before that happened I was still trying to get points.

now I am approaching level 4 and yesterday spent like TEN hours on the site trying to get there. but WHY???? you don%26#039;t get anything by reaching the next level, why do you still want to, when you see it coming?

How does a site, which offers you only points, which generally mean nothing, still motivate you to want them?credit counseling

We can%26#039;t get anywhere in our stupid jobs, so we need some kind of reward! Plus I hate it when it tells me I can%26#039;t answer any more questions.

How does a site, which offers you only points, which generally mean nothing, still motivate you to want them? loan

guilty as you

must be a pride thing...wanting to be a level above the next guy...|||dont know....boredom i suppose. hey!!! another 2 points yay!|||i think that we want more points simply to have more points. kind of like a bragging rights on a much sadder level. i want points and will try to get to the next level, but mostly i do it to keep me entertained at work.|||It is not about the level you can reach over time. If that%26#039;s the motivation, then that is extremely weak motivation. It is about sharing knowledge and trying to make a difference for others and ourselves through our individual and united voices.|||Think of the whole thing like a game. If you want to win a game, wouldn%26#039;t you have to gain some kind of point scoring thing in order to reach the end? If you desperately want to win, wouldn%26#039;t you try doing whatever you can to win, even if it means nothing but having the pride of winning?

So basically, it%26#039;s sort of the same here on Yahoo Answers. People just like having pride when gaining levels and points. You%26#039;re just striving to be %26quot;the best%26quot;. It%26#039;s just like playing a game in which you%26#039;re trying to reach a goal. Even if it doesn%26#039;t mean anything much in real life.

lol, you see people like this all the time. :)|||lol- i think it%26#039;s more competition than anything- people are compatative by nature-we strive to be the best...for me personally, i too spent a great deal on here in order to reach level 2 just so i could be able to vote- it%26#039;s more of a reward thing, the higher the level you are, the more perks you get like unlimited questions and answers etc...and i guess the higher you are, the more %26#039;respected%26#039; your answers may become? i dont know- but good question =oP|||It is the thrill of competing with other answerers. When you were in school and they had intramural baseball games why did you bother to even swing at the ball? You didn%26#039;t get anything if you hit it. It is the same kind of competitive urge.

And of course if you actually help someone with an answer and they say thanks that is a warm feeling too.|||I don%26#039;t know I guess you get stat is .Some people live for that.and that only.|||It%26#039;s called motivation! Your motived to answer questions to get more points, so you can finally get to higher levels. Personal delightfulness!|||I see what you say, though I have not ever spent 10 hours to get to a higher level... what i like about it is the fact that we are learning other points of view; curious over how people feel on certain subjects and plain old fun laughing at certain %26#039;dumb%26#039; questions (yours is not dumb) and how people respond.

the points? who knows, perhaps yahoo wanted a type of search engine that is created by everyday folk like you and me.... so they reward us with the simple things..|||an indication of a compulsive personality disorder. I am on level 6, what does that say about me?|||Let%26#039;s face it; we all want a little claim to fame, and if being the king or queen of a web site helps us get there, we%26#039;ll do what it takes.

Having said that, Yahoo Answers is perfect for those of us who are having slow days at work, or who wish that we could actually have an advice column. It%26#039;s also a way for us to get advice, without having to wait for those snooty, editor-supervised writers at established news organizations.

Happy point earning,

kitchen queen|||Sad that we need to be incented to openly share ideas and help others. Indicative of a bigger problem, don%26#039;t you think?|||It is about making a connection with the outside world. Sharing thoughts %26amp; ideas from people you normally wouldn%26#039;t know. For me it is also a way of taking a small break during the day. I have a private office at the end of a long hallway. Only time I see people is if they want something from storage (I have the key) or they are going to lunch out the back way.|||Good question. Things/gifts aren%26#039;t the most important to most of us. We want the appreciation from a large community for our contribution. We also want the knowledge from learning from others%26#039; experience. We want to influence many people world-wide to change the world for the better.

Getting to a higher level does give you more freedom and power for you to use this site. You will probably spend even more time on it. Enjoy and congratulation for your soon Level 4 promotion!|||hai mr.perishhhhhhhhhh,

i am not answering this question for simply gettting 2 points.

i feel like answering questions to help some one who seriously needs some assistance.i mostly answer those questions and partly others.

as i feel we feel great when we got best answer reward.

any way a satisfaction of self in every work works great.

what u say?

good luck,

reach the top!|||Because...isn%26#039;t answering questions so much fun? You get to tell people all you know about everything! And, if it%26#039;s good, you get chosen best answer! Which is doubly fun because then you get even more points. It%26#039;s a never ending cycle. Only you can control what you do. Yet it seems that Y!Answers may be controlling the better part of us. Conspiracy!!|||I just like reading the questions and answers. Sometimes I%26#039;ll answer if it%26#039;s something I feel I can contribute to but mostly it%26#039;s just entertaining getting a glimpse of peoples pathetic lives. It makes mine seem better in comparison.|||because we will do anything to avoid the horrible feelings of loss and dread associated with the day in day out boredom of our day in day out lives.|||It is a competition thing. You want to show what you know to the benefit of new people. I do this because I want to know whats on peoples minds and how I can relate. Know, compete and learn!
