There are government agencies whose job includes helping you deal with this horrible problem.

Here are some of their web sites

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/id...

http://www.idtheft.gov/

http://www.oispp.ca.gov/consumer_privacy...

http://www.usdoj.gov/criminal/fraud/idth...

http://www.ic3.gov/

If the perpetrator is a family member or %26quot;aquantance%26quot; that you previously thought was a friend, this site may help http://www.idtheftcenter.org/vg115.shtml

There are also private organiations with guidance on what you should do, such as

Study it, follow their advice.

The reality is that millions of people will be victimized by this. The average victim has no idea how the crooks found the info sufficient to do this, and there can be a life time of battling with the debtors that want you to pay the bills for this crook%26#039;s activiies.

i suggest that as soon as possible you

* report situation to the local police, and get a police report # that you can use later, since many place charge extra fees for you to take protective actions if you are not yet an already proven victim

** let the police deal with the bad people, avoid taking the law into your own hands

** also report it to the police in each jurisdiction where crime has occurred ... each city county where it is later determined that the crook used your identity

** if the police refuse to take your report, refer to the links I cite in this response to where else to go next, such as FBI, Secret Service, Attorney General for state, US Postal Inspectors, Department of Motor Vehicles, whoever has relevant jurisdiction for the nature of the fraudulent id activity

* get your credit frozen at all of the major credit agencies ... this will stop any further thefts, so all you have to do is deal with the thefts so far

** the top three are

** Equifax fraud department: (888) 766-0008 : http://www.equifax.com

** Experian fraud department: (888) EXPERIAN (888-397-3742) http://www.experian.com/fraud

** Trans Union fraud department (800) 680-7289 http://www.transunion.com

** make sure you know when the fraud alerts and freees expire, so that you can keep renewing them until this situation is totally resolved

* if you cannot cash checks at local stores, contact the check verification places

There%26#039;s a chart listing them about 1/2 way down this page

http://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs17a.ht...

* order copies of your credit information and identify all accesses that appear to you to be fraudulent ... stay on top of this https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/i...

* as you identify accounts opened in your name by the crooks, contact those places by snail mail and by telephone to inform them of the fraud in progress

** both California and federal law give you the right for documentary evidence of the crook%26#039;s activities using your identity

* maintain a diary of all evidence and calls associated with cleaning up the mess

loan

Its a difficult problem...I was once told by the state to get a

name change but, anything that was on your other name will

just follow your new name.

All you can do is just try and monitor your credit and take it up with the credit card company. And if you can get a police report on it. I was successful in Illinois getting a law passed

requiring the police to file a report on identity theft.

It called criminal identity theft.
