Would it be wise to apply for many credit cards?

Ok I know that the most widely accepted cards are visa and mastercard, but I really like the offers that american espress has on there student cards. Would it be ok to get one of each(one amex, one discover, one visa, and one mastercard)? If it has no anual fees.

Having too many credit cards makes you look like a risk on your credit report until you have a history of being responsible with your cards. I%26#039;d suggest getting either a Visa or a Master Card because they are both generally accepted and in the off chance that one isn%26#039;t, you can go to an ATM. If you%26#039;re dying to have both cards available, get one as a debit/check card. I don%26#039;t know what offers you%26#039;re interested in, but American Express has some disadvantages, such as your credit limit is generally non-existant, so it isn%26#039;t reported to credit bureaus and they assume that you%26#039;re maxing out your card. If you want the cash back, you can look for a different kind of card that will also give the rewards. Student offers are so attractive because most students end up relying on plastic as an advance on money they%26#039;ll be making down the road and fall into debt at an early age. With growing minimum payments, they%26#039;re late paying their bills. With a bad credit score, they cannot get certain jobs and it just furthers the cycle. Be responsible, pay off in full and on time (that%26#039;s what American Express would generally have you do... treat a credit card as a traditional charge card and you should be fine) and it%26#039;ll be a great tool for you.

It is not the annual fees it is the interest rate of the card, No good to have all those bills when you can have one with the interest rate and payment plan the best suits your income and all stores with acknowledge, ATM, etc.|||Visa and Mastercard are generally interchangeable-- a store that accepts one automatically accepts the ohter.

If you dont have any credit previously, you may not even qualify for the offers you are seeing.

Apply for one and see if you get it. use it for 6 months or so and make sure you%26#039;re able to use it responsibly, and then yes, its perfectly okay to get 2 more and have a total of 3 cards. That%26#039;s how I built my credit over a 2 year period and bought my first house at age 20.|||Any thing over 4 credit cards can affect your credit history.
