Why does credit scoring differ from two or more different websites?

I have two credit cards both have membership services. Both report to all three credit agencies. And both offer the service of credit watch, with score watch. Why do the scores not match, I understand the the three reporting credit agencies will be different, but shouldn%26#039;t the info reported be consistant from one wedsite to another. If yes how reliabel are anyone scores who really can give a real reported score. I also understand that the FICO system is only used by Equifax, what are that two other systems?

Hi Speeqtruth,

The three are:

Empirica Score from Transunion

Beacon Score from Equifax

Fair Isaac Score from Experian

the closest you can for accuracy is a trimerge report from a lender or another company that regularly needs to pull credit for loan purposes.

The scores do not match because not all creditors submit to all three agencies.

The Scores you can buy at various websites are NOT your FICO scores. They use their own formulas to give you an %26quot;estimate%26quot; of what you might look like to a lender. As these scores are not what a lender will see (EVER) they are essentially worthless. This applies to the %26quot;scores%26quot; that the Credit Bureaus will try to sell you, as well as the scores offered by other websites (such as freecreditreport.com I believe)

You CAN buy your FICO scores on-line. Your REAL FICO scores, not some approximation, and you can get them for all 3 bureaus. These are the ONLY scores that matter. Cost is about $45 for all 3 (or you can do individual bureaus for $15) As this is a %26quot;Customer Inquiry%26quot; and not an application for credit, it will not count as an inquiry against your report. This service will also give you some factors that are affecting your score (positively and negatively) for each bureau, so you can see what you%26#039;re doing right and where you can improve.

Best option is to get all 3, unless you are preparing to apply for credit and know EXACTLY which bureau they will be pulling. If you pull your Transunion and they pull Experian it won%26#039;t do you any good, as the scores may be different and almost always are... I had a 79 point spread between my high and low last time I checked.
